Owensboro is looking to extend its winning streak to four games on Friday, as they hit the road to take on Breckinridge County.

The Red Devils are coming off a strong performance in which they defeated Owensboro Catholic 35-7 in Junior Kasey Boone’s first start under center.

It was a strong ground game from Owensboro that allowed their offense to thrive in all facets, with senior Tramel Barksdale and junior Kenyatta Carbon leading the way.

Barksdale led the way with 141 yards on 19 carries while Carbon had 94 yards on 11 carries, with both scoring a touchdown each.

The offense will be without Carbon this week due to injury, so Barksdale and senior Byrd Taylor who is returning from injury will carry the majority of the workload in the backfield this week.

With a week under his belt and more passing most likely coming his way, the Red Devils have been prepping Boone for his second start while making sure the team focuses on minimizing mistakes.

“[We’ve been] continuing to get Kasey maximal reps in different situations with the receivers, addressing mistakes we are making consistently that we will have to clean up in order to maximize success,” Fallin said.

Boone had 140 yards on 9-13 passing attempts against the Aces, while also throwing an interception and two touchdowns.

Defensively they will be facing a Fighting Tigers team that seems to be turning the corner a little bit offensively as they were scoreless in their first two games, but have scored over 13 points in their last two games.

Owensboro has keyed in on dual threat senior quarterback Kiyren Watkins, who has gotten healthy after suffering some injuries during the beginning weeks of the season.

Breckinridge County is sitting at 0-4 on the season, but Fallin said that the record doesn’t represent the talent that they have.

“Breckinridge County is a team that has been hit hard by quarantines and injuries, and they are much better than their record indicates,” Fallin said. “They are getting healthy and I look for them to have more success in the second half of the season.”

As far as expectations go, Fallin said that nothing from the previous weeks have change and they will need to be laser focused in practice to be able to execute to the best of their ability under the Friday night lights.

“The expectations are the same every week, prepare well in practice and through film study to execute the game plan, minimize mistakes like penalties and turnovers and adapt or adjust well when necessary,” Fallin said. “At the end of the game we want to take the experiences from the game and determine what we did well and what we need to do better.”

All in all, Fallin wants his team to gain valuable experience on a big road trip while getting their third road win of the season.

“This will be our first “long” road trip and our first game on a natural surface, so it will be a good opportunity for the guys to get back to being used to going on the road to play on what may be a challenging surface,” Fallin said.

Owensboro will look to improve to 4-1 overall when they hit the road to take on Breckinridge County at 7 p.m. on Friday.
