Apollo volleyball struggled at the Taylor County Throwdown this weekend, losing four out of five matches.

Friday

On Friday the E-gals took on Central Hardin and Allen County (Scottsville), falling in two sets in each match.

Apollo faced Central Hardin first, with the Lady Bruins setting the tone by grabbing the first set 25-19.

Central Hardin was in total control of the match after winning the first set, winning the second set handily at 25-12.

The E-gals matchup with Allen County was a battle down to the wire, with the first set ending in the Lady Patriots favor 25-21.

This gave Allen County all the momentum they needed to sweep the match, grabbing the second set 25-18.

Senior Havanah John led the way in kills on the day for Apollo, finishing with nine while senior Madalyn Boswell followed right behind with six.

Senior Abby Spong led the way defensively with 24 digs, while sophomore Ahalia Ramirez controlled the offense with a team-leading 21 assists.

Saturday

On Saturday Apollo went toe-to-toe in three matches, taking on Graves County, Pulaski County and Spencer County.

The E-gals started off the day strong, taking on Graves County and narrowly earning the victory in two sets.

It took extra points for Apollo to win the first set, 26-24, while they won the second set 25-22 to grab their first match win of the weekend.

They looked to carry that momentum into their match with Pulaski County, but the Lady Maroons had other ideas.

Pulaski County earned the first set at 25-18, but the E-gals weren’t going down without a fight and won the second set 25-16.

Apollo did everything they could to claw its way to victory, but they couldn’t muster up enough offense and the Lady Maroons won the match 2-1 with a 15-10 victory in the third set.

Despite the tough results, the E-gals kept fighting, trading points back and forth in a hard fought battle with Spencer County to end the tournament.

The Lady Bears set the tone by winning the first set 25-22, but Apollo was able to stay alive by just narrowly winning the second set at 25-23.

Playing for all the marbles, the E-gals were able to keep their deficit close but couldn’t overcome, falling to Spencer County 15-13 in the third set to lose the match.

The 1-4 record at the Taylor County Throwdown moves Apollo to 6-10 overall on the season and they will look to bounce back against a strong Daviess County team at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
