Panthers Send East-West Back North

It was another big day for the big men of the Kentucky Wesleyan College men’s basketball team. Two of the Panthers’ post players recorded double-doubles in an 86-68 victory over East-West University on Saturday afternoon.  
 
The Panthers (3-1) would lead wire-to-wire as Wyatt Battaile connected for three to start the game. Kaeveon Mitchell connected on another three-point basket midway through the opening period to give the Panthers an 18-12 lead. Wesleyan would shoot 47% from the field in the opening half and would take a 42-27 lead into the locker-room.
 
JoMel Boyd scored 10 first half points on a perfect five of five shooting from the field. The second half was more of the same for the Panthers as they maintained a double-digit lead throughout, leading by as many as 22 points in the half.
 
Battaile scored eight of the Panthers’ first 16 points in the second half and finished the game with 16 points. Battaile would score 12 of his 16 points in the second half. He also dished out five assists and collected five rebounds. The Panthers would record 28 assists on 37 made baskets with Antonio Christmas recording 10 assists on the day.
 
Ben Sisson finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double, his second double-double in four games. Boyd added 18 points on nine of 11 shooting from the field. He also pulled-in 11 rebounds to record a double-double, his third in four games.
 
The Panthers will host the University of Southern Indiana on Wednesday evening, revisiting the Battle of the Bridge rivalry. Tip-off at the historic Owensboro Sportscenter is scheduled for 7 PM.
