After verbally committing as an eighth grader, Daviess County softball’s star catcher Millie Roberts has signed her national letter of intent and is making her way to the SEC to play for Auburn University.
Roberts most recently helped the Lady Panthers earn runner-up in the state championship and own a record of 34-7 to close out the season.
The future Tiger finished her junior season with a .415 batting average, 11 home runs and 46 RBIs.
Roberts signed her letter of intent on Wednesday, surrounded by friends and family at home. In her speech, she made sure to thank her parents for helping her dreams come true.
“I want to thank my Mom and Dad for taking me to a million softball tournaments and traveling all around the country with me and spending countless amounts of money on me to play the sport I love,” Roberts said.
Roberts verbally committed to Auburn as an eighth grader, so she was thrilled to put an end to the recruiting process and officially commit to the Tigers.
“It’s been really long to say the least,” Roberts said. “It’s been a journey. It’s been exciting and fun. I can’t even really explain it in words. I’ve just met so many people and met some of my best friends through the process.”
Roberts recently made her official visit, which ensured her that she made the right decision in choosing Auburn.
“Now that I’ve really been there and seen it all and been on my official visit and met all the girls and kind of re-lived it again, I was just really positive that was where I wanted to go,” Roberts said.
Roberts was drawn towards the Tigers for a number of reasons and is excited to continue her athletic career.
“The campus is beautiful,” Roberts said. “It’s an amazing education, the coaching staff is awesome and the softball program is always amazing.”
While she is ready to take that next step to the collegiate level, Roberts is excited for her senior year and is thankful for her time with the Lady Panthers.
Some of her fondest memories include the state tournament run during her senior year and the time spent with all the friends she’s made in her time at Daviess County.
“Raylee Roby, she’s one of my best friends,” Roberts said. “The pitcher and catcher relationship that we made is just amazing. I talk to her all the time. I love catching her. She’s my favorite pitcher ever. And just staying in the hotel last season with all the girls in Lexington was awesome and probably one of my favorite memories ever throughout high school.”
As her high school career is set for a final bow on it in her senior season, Roberts is look forward to being a contributor for Auburn in the foreseeable future.
With the mounds of accolades including the Daviess County career home runs record, it’s no secret that Robert has plenty of athletic prowess. But to her, that’s not all she can offer and intends to make an impact for the Tigers the second she steps on campus.
“I can bring my athletic ability, but I don’t think that’s all I can bring to the table,” Roberts said. “I think one of my biggest qualities as a softball player is my leadership. I’m always a leader on every team that I’m on and I’m one of the best teammates that you’ll ever meet. I’m an extremely positive teammate.”
