Trinity grabbed its first win on the season on Tuesday, while Daviess County lost and Owensboro Catholic and Apollo both suffered its fourth-straight loss.
Daviess County vs. Butler County
The Panthers first quarter struggles ailed them against Butler County on Tuesday, losing their second straight game by a score of 63-49.
The Bears were clicking on all cylinders in the first quarter, using three triples to space out the offense and grab 18 points. Meanwhile, their defense had Daviess County baffled, as Butler County went into the second quarter owning an 18-4 lead.
The Panthers were able to have more success offensively in the second quarter, but were narrowly outscored by the Bears and trailed 31-16 at halftime.
Daviess County was able to pick things up offensively in the second half, but they were unable to stifle a strong Butler County offense and fell 63-49.
Freshman Lawson Rice led the Bears with 15 points on the night, while junior Brody Hunt (13), senior Solomon Flener (11) and senior Jagger Henderson (10) all finished in double figures.
Senior Devonte McCampbell led the Panthers with 11 points on the night, while eighth grader Jonathan Moss followed right behind with 10 points.
Now riding a two-game losing streak, the Panthers will look to bounce back when they host Owensboro at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Evansville Bosse
Struggling to silence a prolific Evansville Bosse offense, the Aces weren’t able to muster up enough offense en route to a 77-43 loss.
Evansville Bosse came out of the gate looking to take control of the game, rattling off four threes while Tray Hollowell put up eight of their 20 points in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Owensboro Catholic was limited to six points and went into the second quarter trailing 20-6.
The Aces offensive struggles continued in the second quarter, as they were only able to score eight points while Evansville Bosse got even hotter.
They exploded for 26 points in the quarter, as their balanced offensive attack had Owensboro Catholic trailing 46-14 at halftime.
After being outscored 21-10 in the third quarter, the Aces were able to win the fourth quarter 18-10. However, it was too little too late, as Owensboro Catholic fell 77-43.
Hollowell led Evansville Bosse with 18 points, while Jameer Ajibade (17) and Matthew Wagner (13) both finished in double figures as well.
Freshman Vince Carrico led the Aces with 14 points while junior Parker Gray was the only other player to finish in double figures with 13.
Now riding a four-game losing streak, Owensboro Catholic will look to grab its first win when they take on Apollo on the road at 7:30 p.m.
Trinity vs. Russellville
A strong first half propelled Trinity (Whitesville) past Russellville on Tuesday, grabbing its first win of the season at a score of 61-49.
Getting 12 of their 18 from juniors Denver Dickens and Landon Huff, the Raiders went into the second quarter owning an 18-13 lead.
It was another junior in Landon Smith who led Trinity in the second quarter, scoring eight of their 14. Their defense was also locked in, as the Raiders limited Russellville to a three from junior Nick Woodward to go into the locker room owning a 32-16 lead.
With the trio of freshman Jayren Byrd (six), senior Jovari Gamble (six) and senior TerReus Bowens (six) combining for 18 of the Panthers 20 points. Holding Trinity to 12 points, Russellville was able to cut its deficit to 44-36 going into the fourth quarter.
Dickens had another strong quarter in the fourth, scoring eight of the Raiders 17 points. They were able to hold Russellville to 15 points on the defensive end, helping secure the 61-49 victory.
Dickens led the way with 20 points for Trinity, while Huff (15) and Smith (11) both finished in double figures.
With their first win of their season under their belt, the Raiders will look to build on their success when they host Butler County at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
Apollo vs. Grayson County
A rough first half led to Apollo’s demise on Tuesday, as they fell to Grayson County 58-42.
Junior River Blanton helped the Cougars get out to a strong start, scoring nine of the team’s 20 in the first.
Grayson County was able to limit the Eagles to nine points, taking a 20-9 lead into the second quarter.
Apollo was able to stifle Grayson County’s offense in the second, holding them to 10 points.
Meanwhile the Eagles continued to falter, only scoring nine points and going into halftime trailing 30-16.
Apollo was outscored 28-26 in the second half, as their comeback attempt was thwarted and its first half woes led to a 58-42 loss.
Blanton and senior Hunter Tomes led all scorers with 14 points each, while senior Keegan Sharp finished with 13 points.
Junior Zjhan Tutt and sophomore Eli Masterson led the way for Apollo, finishing with 12 points each.
The loss moves the Eagles losing streak to four games, as they will look to bounce back when they host Owensboro Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
