Following a season in which she broke records and led Owensboro Catholic deep into the postseason, junior Maddie Hayden has been named The Owensboro Times 2021 Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
Thankful for a team and coaches that push her everyday, Hayden said she is honored to receive this accolade.
Hayden was a dynamic force offensively for the Lady Aces all season long, leading the team in goals with 44—breaking a single-season record in the program—while leading the team in points with 111 and tying for the team-lead in assists with 23.
Hayden credited her want to be the best and a hard work ethic in practice and off the pitch to all of the success she has found as a soccer player.
“I think my competitiveness and determination has been a big factor in being the player I am today,” Hayden said. “Having great teammates and coaches is what allows me to do my part for the team.”
Her play helped lead Owensboro Catholic to a district championship and a spot in the region championship in which they fell to Ohio County 2-1.
Hayden said that when looking back on her junior season, she will always remember her time with the seniors and the memories they made together as a team.
She also thanked her teammates and her coaches for all of their contributions to helping her receive so much in the past year.
“I want to thank my coaches for pushing me to become the best player I can be and my family and friends that support the Owensboro Catholic soccer team,” Hayden said.
However, Hayden isn’t done yet. Coming into the season her goals were to win the region and state and she said that she will use the things she learned this season to come back and accomplish those goals during her senior year.
