With the regular season come and gone, Owensboro, Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro Catholic and Trinity (Whitesville) girls basketball teams will begin their postseason journeys this week.

Owensboro vs. Owensboro Catholic

COVID-19 complications kept these teams from meeting twice in the regular season, but the Lady Devils and Lady Aces will face off for the second time after all in the first round of the 9th District Tournament.

Owensboro recently met with Owensboro Catholic at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Feb. 11, as the Lady Aces earned a 59-41 win. Junior Lexie Keelin led the way with 15 points off the bench in this game, while freshman Karmin Riley chipped in 12 points on the night.

Sophomore Alicia Phillips and junior Chandler Worth both led the way with eight points for the Lady Devils, while eighth grader Unique Carter-Swanagan and junior Lindsey Gibson had six each.

Owensboro’s leading scorer in sophomore guard A’Lyrica Hughes was limited to five points in that game, as Owensboro Catholic focused on limiting her ability to create driving lanes.

The Lady Devils will look to find a way to get Hughes going the second time around and will be a little banged up as Carter-Swanagan and a few others had suffered injuries late in the season.

The Lady Aces will continue to try and stifle Owensboro’s solid guard play, while looking to stay strong offensively through its inside-out offense.

This the first matchup of the 9th District Tournament, as Owensboro Catholic and the Lady Devils are set for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Monday.

Daviess County vs. Apollo

Having split their two regular season matchups, the Lady Panthers and E-gals will look to get the most important win of them all when they face off in the first round of the 9th District Tournament.

Apollo coms into the postseason owning a 13-15 overall record, while closing out the regular season with a 2-4 district record. On the other hand, Daviess County owns an 18-11 overall and finished 3-3 in district play.

Apollo grabbed a 50-44 win at Daviess County in the first matchup between the two, getting a game-high 21 points from senior Amaya Curry. Sophomore Jenna Dant followed with 17 points, while senior Shelbie Beatty contributed 12 points.

Senior Katie Mewes led the way for the Lady Panthers with 13 points, while junior Adylan Ayer was the only other player to score more than six points with 10.

Ayer led the way the second time around with 16 points, as Daviess County grabbed a 44-40 win. Freshman Lily Hoagland also finished in double figures, tallying 11 on the night.

The E-gals got 17 points from Curry and 14 points from Beatty, while the Lady Panthers were able to limit Dant to three points.

Daviess County will be relying on its guard duo of Mewes and Ayer, while hoping to get double digits from another key player such as Hoagland or freshman Zoey Beehn to help take its offense to the next level.

Apollo will look to Curry and Beatty per usual for its primary offensive production, while Dant will look to bounce back and help elevate the E-gals scoring.

The two will go toe-to-toe on Monday, as they are set to face off at 7:45 p.m.

Trinity vs Edmonson County

The Lady Raiders will look to win their third straight game against Edmonson County in the first round of the 12th District Tournament on Monday.

Trinity (Whitesville) comes into the postseason winning five of its last six games, owning a 13-11 record and a 4-2 district record. Meanwhile, Edmonson County sits 10-19 overall and finished district play at 2-4.

It was a dominant performance from Trinity in the first matchup in the regular season on Jan. 14, as they grabbed a 53-25 win. Holding all Lady Cats players to single digits on the night, senior Cassidy Morris and junior Josie Aull finished with 12 and 10 points respectively to lead the Lady Raiders.

It was a low-scoring affair the second time the two met, as Trinity shot 23% from the field and Edmonson County shot 22%. Paige Wolfe was the only player in double figures for the Lady Cats with 10, while Morris led the Lady Raiders with 14 points.

Trinity will look to continue its defensive consistency, while Morris and Aull will look to lead its offense to victory. Edmonson County will need to find a way to create some offensive momentum in order to defeat them for the first time this season.

The Lady Raiders and Lady Cats are set to face off on Monday, as they open up the first round of the 12th District Tournament at 6:45 p.m.
