Local archery teams shine in weekend tournament

Owensboro, Daviess County and Apollo had multiple top-three finishes this weekend, showing out at the 2022 KY S3DA Indoor State Championship.

Owensboro had a big weekend, as they had four athletes finish second and two finish third in their respective divisions.

Briley Mattingly finished second in Youth Female Pins with a score of 291, Anslee Roberson finished second in Youth Female Pins with a score of 300, while Kassidy Burden finished second in Eagle Female pins with a score of 298. 

Gabriel Mindrup was the lone male to finish in second place, doing so in Youth Male Pins with a score of 297. Hunter Roberson (Young Adult Male Pins) and Jonathan Mindrup (Eagle Male Pins) closed out the top-three finishes for Owensboro, finishing with scores of 298 and 295 respectively.

Apollo and DC both had first place finishers on the day, as Quincy Elliot finished atop the competition in Young Adult Male Olympic Recurve (207) for Apollo and Tyler Turner finished first in the Young Adult Male Pins (299) for Daviess County. Apollo had one other placement on the day, as Shiloh Blevins finished third in Young Adult Marebow (154).

Meanwhile, Aliya Murphy (Youth Female Pins) and Mikey Midkiff (Youth Male Pins) both earned third place finishes for Daviess County, finishing with scores of 295 and 293. Their efforts along with Turner grabbed third as a Youth Team and a Young Adults team.

DC Head Coach Matt Murphy was thoroughly pleased with his team’s efforts during the weekend and has high hopes for their upcoming competition to close out the year.

“We are so proud of all of our archers, we had a lot of personal bests,” Murphy said. “I am hoping that we can keep this momentum and build on it going into Nationals in a couple of weeks.”
