The Eagles couldn’t recover from a strong start for Bowling Green and four errors on the day as they fell 5-3 on the road.

The Purples got the scoring started on the day, getting a run to close the plate before a hit by pitch following a leadoff walk and single. Shortly after, an error on Apollo allowed another run to score and put runners on the corners with one out.

Later in the inning the Apollo would walk a run in to give them a 3-0 lead and that’s all they would get as the Eagles worked out of the bases-loaded jam. An RBI single from senior Nathaniel Roof helped the Purples lead grow to 4-0 the following inning, before Apollo broke through in the third.

A line drive to left from senior Harrison Bowman gave the Eagles their first run of the game in the third and an error with the bases loaded allowed Apollo to cut its deficit to 4-2 going into the fifth.

Bowling Green responded in the sixth, getting an insurance run with one out thanks to a wild pitch. Apollo held them silent for the remainder of the inning, hoping to forge a comeback in the seventh.

Senior Nick Judd kept those hopes alive with a two-out RBI single, cutting the Eagles deficit to 5-3. But they didn’t last long, as the following at-bat a groundout ended the game with the Purples taking the win over Apollo in front of their home crowd.

Judd and Bowman led the way for the Eagles offensively, recording a pair of hits and an RBI each on the day. Apollo used four different pitchers on the day, combining to only allow four hits for Bowling Green.

Strode got the start, allowing four runs—one being earned—on two hits and three strikeouts in two innings. Junior Cayden Crabtree followed, giving up one hit in two innings while striking out five.

Apollo started the season on a five-game winning streak, but have suffered back-to-back losses. The Eagles will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday, when they are set to host Muhlenberg County at 6 p.m.
