The Lady Devils grabbed an early lead thanks to a four-run first inning, but a stagnant offense for the remainder of the game led to a 9-6 loss at the hands of Grayson County on Thursday.

Taking advantage of two Lady Cougars errors, sophomore Sophie Moorman delivered an RBI single and freshman Ellington Embry provided a two-run double to give them a 3-0 lead. Two batters later was freshman Kirsten Tindle, who had an RBI single to give Owensboro a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the first.

Grayson County was able to get one run in the bottom of the first and grabbed two more to make it a 4-3 game going into the fourth. But Owensboro responded well, taking advantage of two hit by pitches and an error that allowed them to take a 6-3 lead going into the sixth.

The Lady Cougars offense seemed to be faltering to open up the inning with two straight outs as well, but a two-out double from junior Audrey Killion started a big rally. The following at-bat sophomore Hannah Franklin got an RBI single and then senior Madelynn Henning did as well to make it 6-5 Owensboro.

After an error by the Lady Devils, Grayson County took advantage and knotted things up at 6-6 thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Kayla Tubb. The following inning the Lady Cougars struck again, this time with a single and an error setting up the scoring opportunity.

A leadoff single from senior Raigan Cave was followed by an error that put her and sophomore Addy Bratcher on first and second with no outs to start the bottom of the sixth. The following at-bat junior Shelby Davis homered to center, giving Grayson County a 9-6 lead.

The Lady Devils had one last chance to get something going in the top of the seventh, but they went down 1-2-3 and ultimately fell to the Lady Cougars 9-6 on the road.

Tindle and senior Brooklyn Keller gave up a combined nine runs, with five of them being earned. Four were unearned, as Owensboro had four errors on the night.

Moorman and Tindle were the only players with two hits, while Embry (two) and Moorman (one) were the only players to record RBIs in the game.

Riding a two-game losing streak, the Lady Devils will return home on Friday looking to grab a win against Edmonson County at 6 p.m.
