On Saturday, sophomore Joshua Moore will make history as the first Kentucky Wesleyan Track & Field athlete to compete at Indoor Nationals. Moore’s high jump of 2.10m (6-10.75) won him the G-MAC title two weeks ago and made him one of the top 16 high jumpers in all of DII.

“It means a lot to be the first athlete from KWC to qualify for nationals. This is a small school and I understand what a big accomplishment this is, not just for me, but for the school,” said Moore. “That being said, I’m not done yet. I’m excited to see how I do against the best of the best on Saturday.”

A true sophomore, Moore has been on a tear this season, setting personal bests in the high jump (6-10.75), long jump (19-5.25), triple jump (41-0.25) and even the 200m dash (24.61). The Vine Grove, Kentucky native burst onto the scene last season when he won the G-MAC outdoor championships in the high jump with a leap of 2.04m (6-8.25).

“It’s been an honor and privilege to coach Josh this season. I took this role with the full intent of trying to raise the standards and expectations here, and Josh is literally setting the bar higher than it ever has been before,” said head coach Sol Stephens. “Josh and I had a meeting in September about his goals, and while we’ve had some ups and downs, Josh has embraced the challenge. Seeing results makes you want to keep striving for more. Josh’s attitude towards practice has improved drastically over the last few months and he’s doing things he has never done before. We are going to go to the championships with he full intention of being one of the top eight high jumpers in DII that day.”

The NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on the campus of Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. Moore is scheduled to jump at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10.
