Entering into her senior season, Daviess County’s Emily Rempe has taken a big step in her athletic future by signing with the University of Southern Indiana for track and cross country.

“It feels amazing to finally have made a decision and make it official,” Rempe said. “Feels like some pressure has been lifted off my chest now that I can finally start preparing for the fall.”

Rempe is coming off of a season in which she was crucial to the Lady Panther’s success and has continued that success indoors. Most recently, she placed fourth in the 800-meter run to lead Daviess County.

Rempe said that she chose USI because it’s close to home but there’s still enough distance for independence, on top of wanting to join the myriad of talent in the track and cross country programs.

“USI has an outstanding and decorated  boys and girls program,” Rempe said. “After talking with the coach I loved his ideas and beliefs and knew this was going to be the right fit for me.”

Rempe is planning on majoring in kinesiology and minoring in either communication or business while she competes for USI.

She still has the outdoor season with her teammates and coaching staff, but said that she will miss her fellow athletes that have competed alongside her for years.

“My teammates are my best friends,” Rempe said. “I am going to miss them and all the inside jokes and relationships we’ve all established with each other.”
