Apollo and Owensboro softball had rough days on the diamond to start the week, falling 10-0 in its games with Henderson County and Muhlenberg County.
Apollo vs. Henderson County
Unable to get much offense going the E-gals fell in their second straight road game, being short-gamed in five at a score of 10-0 by Henderson County.
The Lady Colonels took charge of the game early, taking advantage of an early scoring opportunity in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back singles from freshman Anna Kemp and junior JaMaya Byrum got them going, before sophomore Taylor Troutman made Apollo pay.
With one out in the inning, Troutman cleared the bases with one swing of the bat, hitting a two-run homer to give Henderson County a 3-0 lead. Kemp had scored earlier in the at-bat thanks to a wild pitch.
The Lady Colonels never looked back after gaining the lead, going on to score seven runs en route to a 10-0 lead. Meanwhile, the E-gals couldn’t touch the opposing pitching staff, recording just one hit as they fell to Henderson County.
Falling to 0-3 to start the season, Apollo will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host Bowling Green at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Mustangs opened up the scoring in the top of the second, getting the first run of the game thanks to a walk. The very next at-bat—following an Owensboro error that scored one—freshman Abry Carter homered to left and gave Muhlenberg County a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of the second.
The Lady Devils went on to keep the Lady Mustangs at bay for the next two innings, but they responded with a six-run top of the fifth. This, paired with a total of six hits for Owensboro on the day, ultimately led to a 10-0 loss against Muhlenberg County on Monday.
Freshman Kirsten Tindle and sophomore Emmie Connor were the only Lady Devils to record more than one hit on the day. Senior Brooklyn Keller and sophomore Lauren Hughes struggled in the circle, combining for eight walks (6, 2) and all 10 earned runs (4, 6) between the two.
Falling in their second straight home game, Owensboro will get a chance to defend its home field once again on Tuesday when they host McLean County at 5:30 p.m.
