Trinity wasn’t able to find a way to create offense in its loss on Thursday, while Owensboro Catholic won in a shutout of its own against Union County.

Owensboro Catholic vs. Union County

The Aces were able to extend its winning streak to four games on Thursday, as they limited Union County to two hits in a 6-0 win.

Owensboro Catholic wasted no time gaining a lead, quickly taking advantage of two walks with an RBI single from senior Braden Mundy. Senior Alex Castlen followed with a sacrifice fly, before freshman Brady Atwell capped off a three-run first inning with an RBI double.

After a scoreless second inning, the Aces added a run from an RBI double from senior J Crabtree in the bottom of the third to go up 4-0. But Owensboro Catholic wasn’t done there, grabbing two runs thanks to an RBI double from senior Sam McFarland and an RBI single from Castlen to take a 6-0 lead.

This would be all that Owensboro Catholic would need, as junior Grant Parson, senior Hayden Ward and Castlen all combined to allow no runs on two hits in a 6-0 victory.

Parson got the starting nod, allowing one hit and striking out eight, while Ward and Castlen both tossed an inning in relief and combined for three strikeouts. McFarland, Mundy, Castlen, Atwell and Crabtree all recorded one RBI each to lead the Aces offensively.

Owensboro Catholic moves to 18-4 overall with the win, as they will take a few days off before a district battle with Apollo at 6 p.m. on May 2.

Trinity vs. Hancock County

The Raiders couldn’t find the answer offensively on Thursday, as they were limited to three hits in a 6-0 loss to Hancock County.

The Hornets got right to work offensively, claiming a 1-0 lead thanks to a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first by Austin Velocko. However, the game hit a stalemate as they next three innings went scoreless.

But it was Hancock County who got on the board again, tallying three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth to build a 6-0 lead going into the seventh. It was there that Trinity couldn’t get anything going in its final chance, as the Hornets secured the 6-0 win.

Junior Gavin Howard had a rough day on the mound, allowing five earned runs on six hits and seven walks, while striking out three in six innings. Offensively, junior Landon Huff, freshman Connor Hatfield and junior Nathan Hernandez all recorded one hit.

Trinity now sits at 3-13 overall with the loss, as they will look to bounce back on Friday with a home matchup against Hopkins County Central at 6 p.m.
