Scoring in every inning, Owensboro Catholic’s offense helped catapult them to a 9-1 win over Edmonson County on Saturday.
After shutting the Lady Cats down 1-2-3, the Lady Aces quickly grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first. This was thanks to an RBI single from junior Lilli Grant, which nearly scored two, but junior Bailey Hamilton was thrown out at the plate.
Edmonson County went down quickly again in the top of the second and nearly escaped the inning unscathed, but a rapid two-out rally for Owensboro Catholic changed that. Following a single from junior Abbie Dukate, freshman Tyranda Stuart plated a run with a single to open up the scoring.
This was followed by an RBI double from senior Camille Conkright, before an RBI single from junior Addison Tignor to give the Lady Aces a 4-0 lead going into the third.
For the remainder of the game Owensboro Catholic scored a run in every inning except the fourth, in which they scored two. This consistent offensive display was a key factor in the 9-1 win over Edmonson County.
Stuart and Addison Tignor led the way with a pair of RBIs each, while Conkright, junior Brooke Hamilton, Grant, junior Ashten Tignor and sophomore Maci Merritt all got one each.
On top of a strong offensive game, the Lady Aces got a gem in the circle from junior Alexis Hatchett. She went the distance in the game, allowing one run on five hits, while walking one and striking out 13 on the day.
Owensboro Catholic moves to 6-4 overall with the win, as they have a few days off before taking on Christian County in a road matchup at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
