Despite the Lady Aces having some very strong momentum early, Daviess County was able to regain its composure and claimed a 4-2 district win on Tuesday.

Owensboro Catholic was trying to cause some chaos early in the game, taking a 1-0 lead thanks to an error following a leadoff double from junior Lilli Grant. Following a single and a walk, the Lady Aces had the bases loaded with no outs.

Junior Raylee Roby’s second walk of the inning plated another run for Owensboro Catholic, giving them a 2-0 lead. With the bases still loaded and no outs, Roby proceeded to strike out the side and limit the damage to just the two runs going into the second.

The Lady Panthers showed signs of life offensively in the bottom of the second, as a hit by pitch, error and a walk loaded the bases with no outs. Eighth grader Annie Newman proceeded to ground out into a double play, but two runs scored in the meantime to tie things up at 2-2.

It was Annie Newman who showed up big for Daviess County again in the bottom of the fourth, giving them a 4-3 lead thanks to an RBI double. The Lady Panthers didn’t let up either, scoring again in the bottom of the fifth.

This time the RBI single came via senior Millie Roberts, giving Daviess County a late 4-2 lead. This was more than enough for Roby to get the job done, as she had settled down after a rough first inning.

Roby proceeded to hold the Lady Aces scoreless for the final six innings of play, allowing just the two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out 13 en route to a 4-2 win for the Lady Panthers.

It was Roberts who led the way offensively with two hits, while she along with Annie Newman were the only two players for Daviess County to record an RBI with one each.

Junior Bailey Hamilton still had a decent day in the circle despite taking the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits, walking five and striking out one. Junior Brooke Hamilton was the only player for Owensboro Catholic to record an RBI.

The Lady Aces fall to 11-7 overall and 2-3 in district play, as they will take a day off before a home game against Meade County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Daviess County now sits at 15-3 overall while owning a district record of 4-1, as they now turn their attention to a district matchup with Owensboro  at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
