Senior Everett Munsey tossed a complete-game shutout while getting ample offensive production from his fellow Aces, earning a 10-0 victory over Owensboro on Tuesday.

Owensboro Catholic set the tone for the game early, getting a 1-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice fly by senior Luke Evans. Following a hit by pitch, senior Alex Castlen then delivered a two-run single to give them a 3-0 lead going into the second.

The Aces chipped in three more runs over the next two innings, growing their lead to 5-0 going into the fourth. While the offense was thriving, Munsey had the Red Devils baffled offensively.

He held them scoreless in all five innings on the mound, allowing just three hits, walking none and striking out three. Owensboro Catholic closed out the game with a bang as well, lighting Owensboro up once more in the bottom of the fifth.

The scoring outburst started with a two-run single from freshman Brady Atwell with one out. With the bases loaded later with two outs, Evans was hit and a run scored to make it an 8-0 game.

Back-to-back walks then did the trick, scoring two runs and capping off a five-run inning to secure a 10-0 shutout win for the Aces. Offensively it was Castlen and Evans who led the way as they recorded a pair of RBIs each, while senior Sam McFarland, senior Hayden Ward, junior Michael Hyland, junior Grant Parson and Atwell all scored an RBI each.

Freshmen Cayden Ray and Will Rickard didn’t have the strongest days on the mound, combining to allow five earned runs on seven hits, four walks and just two strikeouts in five innings. Offensively, eighth graders Elijah and Evan Hamptonm as well as junior Connor Hallmark were the only players to record a hit.

The Aces improve to 17-4 overall and 2-0 in district play with the win, as they will turn their attention to a home matchup with Union County at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Owensboro falls to 8-10 overall and 0-3 in district play, as they will return to district action on Wednesday when they take on Daviess County at 7 p.m.
