Bouncing from a tough loss to Daviess County on Tuesday, the Lady Aces grabbed a strong 8-0 win over Owensboro on Thursday.
Owensboro Catholic got on the board first, taking advantage of a Lady Devils’ error with an RBI single from junior Bailey Hamilton to go into the second inning up 1-0.
The Lady Aces were able to expand their lead in the bottom of the second, this time getting a two-run double from Junior Lilli Grant to take a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, junior Alexis Hatchett was locked in.
Despite two walks in the first inning, Hatchett buckled down and held Owensboro hitless through the first three innings. The Lady Devils got a double from sophomore Paige Hughes to start the fourth, but it turned into nothing and Owensboro Catholic took advantage.
The Lady Aces grabbed two more in the bottom of the fourth, as an RBI double from Sophomore Maci Merritt delivered the first one. The second came on an RBI groundout by senior Camille Conkright, sending Owensboro Catholic into the fifth up 5-0.
The Lady Aces tallied three more in the bottom of the fifth after silencing Owensboro’s bats once again, putting the final touches on an 8-0 district win.
Hatchett had a very strong day on the mound, allowing just five hits, walking two and striking out nine for the complete-game shutout. Offensively, Owensboro Catholic had seven different players record RBIs.
Lilli Grant led the way in run production with two RBIs, while Bailey Hamilton, Conkright, Merritt, junior Abbie Dukate and freshmen Jaiden Grant and Tyranda Stuart all chipped in one each.
Freshman Kirsten Tindle didn’t have the strongest day in the circle, allowing eight runs—four earned—on eight hits, while walking one and striking out none. Owensboro falls to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in district play with the loss, as they will look to get back in the win column against Webster County at 6 p.m. on Friday.
The Lady Aces have a few days off before taking on another district opponent, looking to defeat Daviess County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
