Apollo and Trinity (Whitesville) weren’t able to find a way to put together runs on Thursday, as they both fell in their respective matchups.

Trinity vs. Butler County

The Lady Raiders struggled to silence Butler County’s bats and ultimately lost on the road 11-4 on Thursday.

The Lady Bears were able to grab the first lead of the game, setting the tone by rattling off three runs in the bottom of the first. However, after a scoreless second inning Trinity’s bats came alive.

Two Butler County errors and a walk loaded the bases for the Lady Raiders with one out, where freshman Raylee Higdon then hit a grand slam to right to put them up 4-3 going into the bottom of the third.

But the lead didn’t stick with Trinity for long, as a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the third scored a run and evened things up at 4-4.

The Lady Bears kept their momentum going in the bottom of the fourth, grabbing two runs in the bottom of the fourth and five in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 11-4 win over the Lady Raiders.

Juniors Allie Barnett and Allie Graham struggled in the circle, allowing seven earned runs combined while allowing 14 hits combined and recording no strikeouts on the day. Higdon led the way offensively, tallying all four RBIs with her grand slam.

Trinity falls to 9-8 overall with the loss, as they will take a few days off before returning to action on May 2 when they take on Union County at 6 p.m. at home.

Apollo vs. Jasper

The E-gals couldn’t string together enough runs on Thursday, as they lost to Jasper 8-2 on the road.

While Jasper scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, Apollo got one back via an RBI groundout from eighth grader Arianna Ramirez to even things up going into the second inning.

But Jasper had other things in mind, as their offense caught fire and scored two runs for each of the next three innings. Meanwhile, the E-gals could only grab one runin that stretch and was trailing 7-2 going into the fifth.

The offense never came again for Apollo though, as they gave up one run in the top of the seventh to close out the game and fell 8-2 to Jasper.

Junior Emmie Bullington had a rough time in the circle on Thursday, allowing six earned runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out one in four innings. Senior K’Asia Palmer had a solid outing in relief, allowing just the one run on three hits in three innings of relief.

Offensively it was Palmer (2-3) and Arianna Ramirez (1-4) that led the way, tallying an RBI each and combining for a 3-7 day at the plate.

Apollo falls to 9-9 overall with the loss, as they will look to bounce back with a home matchup against Ohio County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
