Following a stellar senior season at Apollo, the E-gals star guard Amaya Curry has been selected to the Girls Basketball Kentucky All-Stars for their game against the Indiana All-Stars.

“It means a lot to be recognized as one of the best in the state of Kentucky and to represent my state against Indiana,” Curry said. “I will definitely be excited to play in front of my hometown when we take on Indiana at the sportscenter.”

Curry was invited to a tryout by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) and while she was initially nervous given her lack of size and having not faced a lot of the players she would eventually meet, she was able to play well enough to secure a spot on the roster.

“I had mixed feelings going into the tryout because several of the players I’ve never played against or even seen play,” Curry said. “And with being one of the smallest players there, I didn’t let that change my mindset. But from a skill standpoint I believe in my play, effort, my heart and my determination.”

Apollo made it to the 3rd Region Semifinals in large part to Curry’s success this past season, as the guard averaged 15.3 ppg, while also grabbing 3.4 rpg. Curry is thrilled to have earned the honor, knowing that she’ll be competing with some of the best players the Commonwealth has to offer.

“It means a lot to be recognized as one of the best in the state of Kentucky and to represent my state against Indiana,” Curry said. “I will definitely be excited to play in front of my hometown when we take on Indiana at the sportscenter.”

After recently signing with Bellarmine, one of the players that she will get to compete is a future teammate that she’s looking forward to seeing.

“I’m looking forward to being on the court with my future teammate Gracie Merkle and also being on the court with so many great players,” Curry said. “I think it will be a lot of fun and exciting.”

Curry and the Kentucky All-Stars will go toe-to-toe with Indiana All-Stars for the ultimate bragging rights when the two teams face off in June.
