Owensboro Catholic goes 5-1, wins All-A Classic

The Lady Aces worked their way to an All-A Classic Championship this past weekend, defeating Holy Cross (Louisville) 13-0 to secure the title on Sunday.

Owensboro Catholic got off to a rocky start in the tournament, losing its first game to Russellville via a 2-0 shutout. But the Lady Aces responded well, handily defeating Lynn Camp and Walton-Verona 15-0 and 15-1 respectively on Saturday.

Freshman Jaiden Grant led the way offensively with four RBIs against Lynn Camp, while junior Brooke Hamilton and eighth grader Hannah Robbins threw a combined no-hitter through three innings while striking out four. Hamilton also had a strong day at the plate against Walton-Verona, leading the way with four RBIs.

Owensboro Catholic kept its foot on the gas to start Sunday as well, defeating Green County and Lyon County 9-4 and 11-3 respectively to earn its spot in the All-A Classic Championship. 

The Lady Aces were clicking on all cylinders in the title game, getting a shutout performance in the circle from Hamilton while spraying the ball all over the diamond to grab the 13-0 win. Hamilton tossed all six innings on Sunday, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Junior Lilli Grant, junior Abbie Dukate, freshman Tyranda Stuart led the way against Holy Cross, chipping in three RBIs each offensively. Senior Camille Conkright, Brooke Hamilton and Jaiden Grant all chipped in one each as well in the game.

Owensboro Catholic went 5-1 during the weekend, putting them at 17-8 overall going into a district matchup with Apollo at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
