Owensboro vs. Hopkins County Central

The Lady Devils offense was clicking on all cylinders on Friday, slashing its way to a 13-1 road victory over Hopkins County Central.

It was a tie ballgame at 1-1 after the first inning, as both teams grabbed a run each. However, Owensboro kicked it into second gear the following inning.

Back-to-back-to-back singles by the Lady Devils got them going in the second inning, as the final single by senior Brooklyn Keller gave them a 2-1 lead. After a run scored on a passed ball, Owensboro got back-to-back singles again from freshman Ellington Embry and sophomore Sophie Moorman to grab a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the second.

The Lady Devils got one more in the third, before exploding once again in the top of the fourth. Owensboro rattled off six runs in the top of the fourth, while Keller closed the door on a 13-1 win.

Keller threw all five innings, giving up one run on four hits, while walking three and striking out three en route to the win. Keller also had a strong day at the plate, recording two RBIs alongside Moorman and freshman Addison Hill to lead the way offensively.

The Lady Devils improve to 8-15 overall with the win, as they will look to grab two more wins in their 9:30 and 11 a.m. Owensboro Catholic Classic games on Saturday against Madisonville-North Hopkins and Lyon County respectively.

Owensboro Catholic vs. Lyon County

The Lady Aces extended their winning streak to eight games on Friday, as early offense helped them to a 9-6 win over Lyon County.

The game went into the second inning knotted up at 1-1, with both teams trying to set the tone for the game. It was Owensboro Catholic who shifted momentum first, taking the lead in the bottom of the second.

The scoring started with a two-run triple from junior Lilli Grant and then senior Camille Conkright hit an RBI single to make it a 4-1 game. The Lady Lyons got two more runs back in the top of the third to cut it to a 4-3 game, but the Lady Aces came roaring back to extend their lead.

An RBI double from junior Ashten Tignor opened up the scoring in the top of the third, which was followed by a two-run double from Grant to take a 7-3 lead. Junior Bailey Hamilton then capped off the bottom of the third by taking advantage of an error with a two-run single to go into the fourth up 9-3.

Lyon County did bounce back and get to Hatchett for three runs in the top of the sixth, but she was able to lock back in and shut the door for a complete-game win at 9-6.

Hatchett didn’t have her best stuff in the circle on Friday, allowing six runs—three earned—on 10 hits, while walking six, but striking out eight en route to the win. Grant led the way offensively with four RBIs, while Bailey Hamilton followed close behind with two.

Owensboro Catholic improves to 20-8 overall with the win, as they will look to stay strong against McCracken County and Marshall County at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively on Saturday.
