It was a wild pitch that decided a 10-inning contest on Monday, as the RiverDawgs lost via a 2-1 walk-off win for the Paducah Chiefs.
There was little action offensively through the first five innings of play, as Owensboro’s Payton Adkisson and Paducah’s Payton Heinley held each team scoreless.
It wasn’t even a hit that led to the first run of the game, but a RiverDawgs error. Following the leadoff error, a hit by pitch and a walk led to the bases being loaded with two down.
Adkisson was able to eventually get out of the inning, but not before he walked a run in during the bottom of the sixth to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Owensboro was able to respond, but it wasn’t until the ninth that they were able to crack Heinley.
It was Reece Davis who finally put the RiverDawgs on the board, leading off the top of the ninth with a solo shot to left field. An error and a pair of walks nearly led to Owensboro claiming the lead, but Will Hudson was able to get a groundout to third to send the game into the bottom of the ninth tied at 1-1.
A pair of RiverDawgs errors and an intentional walk loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth for Paducah, but back-to-back fly outs sent the game into extra innings. However, it was the Chiefs who did get the final blow offensively.
Following a leadoff double from John Oberson, he would move over to third on a sacrifice bunt. After a walk, Oberson scored during the next at-bat because of a wild pitch and gave Paducah the 2-1 win.
Owensboro falls to 8-15 overall with the loss and will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host the Henderson Flash at 6:30 p.m.
