The Panthers will look to replicate its success from their season opener a year ago, as they will look to top Meade County once again in front of their home crowd to open up the 2022 campaign.

Daviess County is a year removed from a 30-point victory over Meade County, starting off a historic 2021 season in which they finished with an 11-2 overall record. The Panther’s success from the regular season carried them deep into the postseason as well, winning a district championship before ultimately falling in the third round of the playoffs to the state powerhouse in St. Xavier.

Without Joe Humphreys leading the way offensively, senior Jack Ball and junior Lake Wilson will handle the responsibilities under center. Toting an offensive lineman with several returning starters, Daviess County will look to control the tempo of the game in the pocket and with senior Bryson Parm in the backfield.

On the defensive side of the ball Jack Ball will be an outside linebacker next to key inside linebacker Isaac Blue, while Wilson will be in the Panthers secondary. Brannon said that they have senior Decker Renfrow playing safety to give them great range at the free safety spot, but just need to create depth in their defensive secondary with multiple players.

“Russ Crowe has emerged as one of our top DBs with a great off-season and pre-season 7v7 so far,” Brannon said. “Lake Wilson, Luke Hagedorn, Connor White, Gatlin Maysey all have shown promise of being effective in our defensive backfield, and we look for them to continue to progress.”

Daviess County will open up the season at home, when Meade County comes to town to battle on the gridiron at 7 p.m. on Friday.
