Following a slow start Daviess County boys soccer picked things up in the second half, rattling off four goals to defeat the Aces in a season-opening 9th District matchup for the Panthers.

Neither team was able to get going offensively in the first 40 minutes of play, as Owensboro Catholic kept Daviess County at bay to make it a 0-0 ballgame at halftime.

It took 10 minutes into the second half for someone to finally crack the books, as senior Sean Higgs scored to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute. Shortly after senior Braden Dant got in on the action, scoring again to make it a 2-0 ballgame.

The Aces senior keeper Parker Jones was able to make five saves on the night, but Daviess County never took their foot off the gas. The Panthers ended up with 16 shots on goal in the match, with sophomore Lucas Humphrey and senior Hayden Boswell scored back-to-back goals in the 67th minute to wrap up a 5-0 season-opening road win.

The Panthers sit at 1-0 to open up the 2022 campaign, as they return home for the first time in front of their home crowd when they host Ohio County at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15.

Meanwhile Owensboro Catholic falls to 1-1 overall after defeating Muhlenberg County in its season opener, as they will take a day off before hosting Todd County Central at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
