With standout golfer Macey Brown graduating and other players leaving the program, new Head Coach David Lyons is hoping to build the players they have individually to compete at the state level in 2022.

The E-gals are coming off an impressive 2021 campaign, in which Macey Brown, Mary Ann Lyons all qualified to compete at state. Mary Ann Lyons and Brown both shot an 81 to grab sixth and seventh place, while Claire Reynolds won a play-off to finish 10th overall with an 89.

Reynolds went on to have the best round of the trio at state, finishing in the top-50 with a 168 as an eighth grader. But in looking ahead to this season, Reynolds has left the program to join Daviess County and Brown graduated and is beginning her college career at the University of Indianapolis.

This leaves David Lyons with Mary Ann as the lone returning varsity player and Aliee Beard a returning junior varsity player. And while it will be an adjustment for the program as a whole with a much different roster and David coaching girls as opposed to boys this season, he’s looking forward to seeing what the girls can do on the course.

“My expectation is for Mary Ann to play well enough to be one of the top-10 out of the regional golf tournament and top-15 out of semi-state and return to the state golf tournament,” Lyons said. “The key to Mary Ann this season is for her to continue to work on her game.”

At the least Lyons is hopeful that Mary Ann puts in the time outside of matches, and if she does he thinks she could be a top-20 player at the conclusion of the state tournament. For Beard, Lyons said that as long as she continues to work hard on her game she will be able to be a contributor as the season progresses.
