After joining the Kentucky Wesleyan Men’s and Women’s Bowling staff as an assistant coach in 2021-22, Angelique McKeny is excited to start her first season as the full time head coach in 2022-23.
“I am very thankful and excited for the opportunity to coach the team that I was once a part of,” said McKeny. “Along with physical training, we will also be incorporating mental training, which I believe will take this team to the next level. My expectations grow higher and higher each year for this team, and this year our goal is to win back-to-back GMAC conference championships on both the men’s and women’s side!”
McKeny has plenty of playing experience herself, as she is a former captain of the Kentucky Wesleyan women’s bowling team and has over 20 years of bowling experience. The 2020 KWC graduate played a major role in the team winning multiple NCAA and USBC titles. She also achieved numerous singles awards, and bowled the only NCAA women’s 300 game of the 2019-20 season.
Athletic Director Mark Shook states that “We are excited to have Angelique as our next head coach for our men’s and women’s bowling programs. She is one of our own and is arguably the most accomplished bowler in our program’s young history. Angelique’s knowledge and passion for the sport are unmatched and she was a key part in helping lead our teams to conference championships last season. She is committed to building our programs to be among the best in our conference, region, and country.”
The men’s bowling team starts out their season on Sept. 24-25 at the MSC Baker Shootout in Richmond, Ky., while the women head to Mckendree to take part in the Bearcat Open on Oct. 21-23.
