Apollo boys soccer closed out the regular season with a win over Muhlenberg County on Thursday, while Owensboro fell just short on the road against Greenwood.

Apollo vs. Muhlenberg County

The Eagles snapped their two-game losing streak on Thursday, getting a number of players involved offensively in a 3-1 home win over Muhlenberg County to close out the regular season.

Senior Hunter Dickerson led Apollo with a pair of goals on the day, while senior Cesar Velazquez scored the other. Junior Hayden Hill, senior Eh Wah and senior Hsa Than dished out the three assists, while freshman Htee Eh helped keep the Mustangs off the board by making three saves.

Apollo moves to 9-12 overall following the win, as they will take a few days off to prepare for their first-round district matchup against No. 1 seed Daviess County at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Owensboro vs. Greenwood

The short-handed Red Devils couldn’t muster up enough offense on Thursday on the road, falling 2-1 to Greenwood.

Greenwood got the first goal of the day on a free kick, later scoring another goal after a PK from junior Arlo Johnson to take a 2-1 win over Owensboro. Johnson’s goal was the only offense the Red Devils got, while junior Alex Carpenter helped keep them in the game with five saves in the match.

Owensboro moves to 8-7-3 following the loss to close out the regular season, now having a few days to prepare for the first round of the 9th District Tournament against Owensboro Catholic on at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
