Kickstarted by a strong showing from senior running back Kenyatta Carbon and some lights out defense in the first quarter, Owensboro was able to pile it on as the night progressed in a 56-7 home win over Ohio County on Friday.

Carbon put the Red Devils on the board early, getting a one-yard rushing touchdown with 10:13 left in the first to make it a 7-0 game. After a scoreless drive from the Eagles, Owensboro got another one-yard rushing touchdown as freshman Evan Hampton made it 14-0.

Minutes later after a short punt by Ohio County, Carbon capped off a quick drive with a four-yard rushing touchdown to build their lead to 21-0. Carbon wasn’t done yet though, following a 40-yard carry by senior Deon Winstead with a six-yard rushing touchdown with 5.4 seconds left in the first to take a commanding 28-0 lead.

Winstead was able to get a touchdown of his own shortly into the second quarter, taking a handoff 21 yards to the house after a pick by sophomore Cayden Ray. After senior Khalil Rogers caught the two-point conversion attempt, Owensboro led 36-0.

The Red Devils proceeded to recover a fumble soon after, allowing Winstead to escape for a 22-yard rushing touchdown. Following the extra point from senior kicker Andrew Lanz, Owensboro had a 43-0 lead going into the locker room.

Ohio County was able to get on the board in the fourth quarter, but a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Carbon and another rushing touchdown for Hampton was all the Red Devils needed to grab a 56-7 win at home.

Along with Carbon’s three rushing touchdowns, he was able to amass 75 yards on nine carries while Hampton scored on both of his carries in the game. Senior quarterback Kasey Boone was also nearly perfect, throwing for 103 yards on 7-8 passing.

Now sitting at 4-2 overall and 2-0 in district play, Owensboro will have a week to prepare for a road matchup with Muhlenberg County at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29.
