Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Mark Shook as officially announced the hiring of  Chuck Brown as the new head coach of the men’s and women’s tennis programs. Brown comes to KWC after spending the past four years as the head tennis pro at Centre Court here in Owensboro.

“Adding Chuck Brown to our staff is a big win for our tennis programs and for Owensboro in general,” said Shook. “His record of success and depth of experience in college coaching put him easily at the top of our list of candidates. As a teaching professional, he brings the critical ability to meet each player where they are and help them grow daily throughout their career. Chuck is a competitor and wants us to win immediately but he also shares our priorities for the entire student-athlete experience – which encompasses our academic, sport, service, and life skills core areas in our One Team Wesleyan program.”

Brown has a long history in the sport of tennis, having been around the sport since his playing days in the 90s.  He started off his coaching career at the University of Kentucky, where he helped lead them to a SEC Championship in 2005. Following his time at UK, Brown was the head coach at Transylvania for 16 years.

During his Transy tenure, Brown won nine men’s conference championships and two women’s titles. He was named the Heartland Conference Coach of the Year a record 11 times, and has won two USTA Kentucky Coach of the Year and USPTA Southern Division Coach of the Year awards.

“I’m very excited to be back in college coaching,” said Brown. “I miss the competition and working with college kids. Mentoring students is very important to me – which is why I became a tennis professional and college coach in the first place. I look forward to the challenge of building a competitive tennis program.”
