Local cross country teams went toe-to-toe on Monday, with Daviess County girls and Apollo boys coming out on top in the City-County Cross Country Championships.
The Lady Panthers had a monstrous day at the meet, finishing with a total time of 1:42:55.97 to grab first with Lucy Spaw (19:38.43) and Bentlei Stallings (20:16.37) finishing first and second individually. Meanwhile, teammates Sally Tidwell (20:33.47), Blakely Greer (20:40.45), Melanie Reesman (21:47.25) and Micah Sagar (21:59.30) all finished in the top-10.
Apollo finished behind them in second place with a total time of 1:52:59.83, while the Lady Aces finished third with a time of 1:55:19.57 and Owensboro in fourth with a time of 1:56:03.87. The E-gals were led by Ahmira Pickett who placed third at a time of 20:25.64, while Owensboro Catholic had a pair of runners and Owensboro had a runner in the top ten.
It was Peyton Reid (20:30.07) and Ainsley Sutter (21:17.80) who led the Lady Aces finishing fourth and eight respectively, while Kiley Palmer finished seventh with a time of 21:05.32 to lead the Lady Devils.
Apollo led the way on the boys side, finishing first with a total time of 1:24:43.70. The Eagles had the top three runners on the day, as Thomas Ashby posted a time of 15:46.30, Noah Gray earned a time of 16:41.16 and Blake Mullins finished with a time of 16:48.52.
Emmit Brock also finished seventh individually for the Eagles, posting a time of 17:14.20. Daviess County was a close second with a total time of 1:26:41.67, while Owensboro finished third (1:39:13.26), Owensboro Catholic (1:43:30.22) and Grace Christian Academy finished fifth (1:52:13.44).
Brayden Kaelin led Daviess County in fourth with a time of 16:59.10, while Nolan Kurz and Bryson McGary followed close behind with times of 17:03.51 and 17:08.00 respectively. Along with the fourth, fifth and sixth finishers, the Panthers also had seventh, eighth and ninth in Asher Alvey (17:35.93), Aidan Taylor (17:55.13) and Zach McCaslin (18:03.37).
Owensboro 18:44.29 Etienne Zuberi finished 15th to lead the Lady Devils, while Jacob Howard finished 21st (19:12.35) to lead Trinity (Whitesville), Jonathan Dechman finished 23rd (19:23.11) to lead Grace Christian Academy and Braden Davis finished 27th (19:35.53) to lead Owensboro Catholic.
