The Aces couldn’t find a way to stop Union County’s offense on the road, as a late comeback led to a 33-29 loss for Owensboro Catholic.
Sophomore quarterback Brady Atwell supplied the Aces with plenty of offense on the night, throwing for 161 passing yards on 14-29 passing, while also rushing for 13 yards and two touchdowns on five carries. Junior Elijah Blair had the other pair of touchdowns on the day, going along with his 45 yards on six carries.
Owensboro Catholic was able to earn an interception and force a fumble on the day, but they didn’t have any answer for the Braves quarterback Cannon Sheffer. He threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns, having the lone interception on 17-37 passing while also rushing for 76 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.
His primary target was Kristopher Hughes, who tallied 108 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions. Kanye Pollard also had a big game on the day, grabbing 102 yards and a touchdown on four catches.
It was Sheffer and Hughes that were responsible for the two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter, as the Braves were able to complete the comeback victory over the Aces. Owensboro Catholic falls to 1-2 with the loss, as they will now have to prepare for a crosstown battle with Owensboro at 7 p.m. next Friday.
