Lady Devils split last pair of regular season games

Owensboro volleyball split its last two games of the regular season this week, beating Henderson County 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 16-14) on Wednesday before falling to Ohio County 0-3 on Friday (25-10, 25-23, 25-8).

Junior Chase Mather (12), senior Brooklyn Williams (10) and senior Mia Covington (8) led the way offensively against the Lady Colonels, combining for 30 of the team’s 46 kills while Covington also dished out 15 assists. Sophomore Ava Fincher was close behind with 14, while senior Kennedy Thompson had eight kills and Williams had five blocks to lead the defense to the win.

The Lady Devils weren’t able to carry their offensive prowess over into the game against Ohio County, getting 22 kills as a team with Williams leading the way at six. Covington dished out a team-leading 12 assists in the game, while Thompson led the defense with 12 of the team’s 42 digs.

Owensboro closes out the regular season at 12-17 overall, as they now turn their attention to the 9th District first round matchup with Daviess County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
