The Lady Aces secured their spot in the Elite Eight on Monday, as their offense overpowered Whitefield Academy in a 5-1 win.
Owensboro Catholic wasted no time getting on the board, as junior Jahaira Ward opened up the scoring in the sixth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Junior Ginny Young made it 2-0 in the 13th minute, scoring after junior Elizabeth Hayden was able to win possession and serve it into the box.
Sophomore Aubrey Randolph kept things going in the 19th minute, cleaning up junior Mallary Bailey’s shot that was deflected to build the Lady Aces lead to 3-0. Owensboro Catholic got another goal from Young to make it 4-0 in the 23rd minute, with their fifth goal coming from senior Maddie Hayden shortly into the second half of play..
Whitfield Academy wasn’t able to find the back of the net until the 65th minute, getting a goal from junior Sara Ritter. However, it was too little too late, as the Lady Aces closed the door on a 5-1 win.
Young led the way with her pair of goals, while Maddie Hayden and Ward had a goal and an assist each and Bailey and Elizabeth Hayden had an assist each. Owensboro Catholic’s winning streak is up to five games now, as they turn their attention to their Elite Eight matchup with Elizabethtown on Wednesday.
