Daviess County boys soccer was able to grab a late goal to force overtime on Saturday, but couldn’t come out on top in PK’s and had their season come to a close with a 3-2 Elite Eight loss to Bowling Green.

Bowling Green got on the board first, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. The Panthers were able to answer swiftly, as senior Davian Clark hit senior Hayden Boswell for equalizer in the 22nd minute.

The Purples had a chance to reclaim the lead in the 29th minute thanks to a foul on Daviess County, giving them a penalty kick. Bowling Green was unable to convert the opportunity, but they did find the back of the net just before halftime to take a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute.

The Purples took this lead into halftime and well into the second half, as the Panthers pressed trying to break through for the tie once again. It wasn’t until there were three minutes left in regulation that Daviess County was able to do so, as senior Ahmed Abdullahi headed the ball to senior Jack Quisenberry for a goal to knot things up at 2-2 and send the game into overtime.

After two five-minute overtime periods neither team was able to score the game-winning goal, sending the contest into a penalty kick shootout. The Panthers and Bowling Green went back and forth from the jump, finding themselves tied at 3-3.

However, it was the Purples who were able to come out on top, as they found the back of the net one more time to beat Daviess County in PK’s 4-3 and end the Panthers 2022 campaign with a 3-2 Elite Eight loss.

Daviess County had another strong season on the pitch, finishing the year with an overall record of 19-5-1 while grabbing their ninth straight 9th District and 3rd Region Championships.
