Following a strong fourth season at the varsity level with Daviess County in which they made a long postseason run yet again, Hayden Boswell has been named the Owensboro Times 2022 Player of the Year for his efforts.
“I felt like it was an all around great year for me,” Boswell said. “I think I played to the fullest of my abilities… It feels great being able to be recognized for all the work I put in this year. I’m really blessed to be able to receive this award.”
Boswell played a major factor in the Panthers success during the 2022 campaign, scoring 11 goals, earning five assists and 27 points total on the season en route to a 19-5-1 finish. Daviess County was also able to bring home its ninth straight 9th District Championship and 3rd Region Championship in the process.
Making a run in the state tournament was a priority to Boswell coming into the season, as well as some personal goals such as completing the season uninjured, starting every game, and staying a captain to my team. He was able to accomplish these goals in the 25 starts in 25 games played during the season, with his mental approach towards being the best teammate he can be as a key part of his success.
“I think my dedication to my team and overall commitment and effort level has turned me into the player I am today,” Boswell said. “I’ve learned that you don’t need to be the best player on the field to stand out.”
Boswell has enjoyed plenty of success in his four years with the Panthers and his senior season was definitely a highlight for him. He loved being able to be a leader for his teammates and is thankful for the lessons that Daviess County soccer has taught him.
“My senior season was really important for me because I got the chance to be a true leader for my team,” Boswell said. “I got to make a lot of connections with the underclassmen and make them feel welcomed to our team. Daviess County Soccer was really a blessing to me. It gave me another family and the teams I played with really had goals to strive for. There wasn’t one of my four varsity years that I didn’t enjoy.”
As he now prepares to finish out the school year and then graduate, Boswell wanted to make sure to acknowledge those who have helped him have such a successful high school career with the hope of staying in sports in his career path after school.
“I’d like to just thank all of my teammates over the years as well as all four coaches for making me into the player I am today,” Boswell said. “I don’t have any set in stone plans yet as of where I am going to college, but I am going to college in hopes to pursue a career in physical therapy.”
