Owensboro was red hot offensively in a nice win over North Hardin on Tuesday, while Owensboro Catholic got it done on both ends late to complete a comeback win against Bowling Green and remain undefeated to start the season.
Owensboro vs. North Hardin
The Red Devils were on fire on Tuesday, as senior Kenyatta Carbon led all scorers with 34 points en route to a 91-83 win in an offensive showcase with North Hardin.
Both teams got off to a slower start, with the Trojans taking a narrow 17-13 lead into the second quarter. While junior Shaun Boykins led North Hardin with eight points in the second, Owensboro rattled off 26 points to swiftly swing momentum its way and take a 39-34 lead into the locker room.
Boykins and the Trojans were able to grab 24 points in the third, but Carbon got hot the second he stepped on the floor following halftime. The senior battled for 12 points in the quarter, keeping the Red Devils out in front 65-58 heading into the fourth.
Boykins and junior Javeon Smith both had eight points each in the final quarter to try and help North Hardin close the gap, but eight more points from Carbon and plenty of help from his supporting cast allowed Owensboro to close the door on a strong 91-83 road win.
Carbon finished with a season-high 34 points, while seniors Talas Taylor (13), Ethan Pendleton (12), Jalen Rogers (11) and junior AP Mitchell (10) all finished in double figures as the Red Devils improved to 7-3 with the win.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Bowling Green
A big fourth quarter from Owensboro Catholic defensively as well as offensively from guards Brian Griffith and Luke Beickman were the keys to success in a 63-59 win over Bowling Green on Tuesday, handing the Purples their first loss of the season.
The Aces found themselves trailing 50-42 following the third quarter, as Makayeius Wardlow had notched 25 points to help give Bowling Green the lead. But Wardlow was only able to get six of the Purples nine points in the fourth, while Griffith (12) and Beickman (7) combined for 19 of the team’s 21 points to claim the 63-59 win.
Griffith finished with 27 points to lead Owensboro Catholic and Beickman added 17, while senior Parker Gray wasn’t far behind with 12. The Aces’ work at the free throw line was also huge in the victory, hitting 21-30 to secure the win and help them advance to 8-0 on the season.
