For just the second time in program history, Head Coach John Fusco and the Kentucky Wesleyan Men’s Soccer program can say they have an All-American on their team. Sophomore forward Calum Newson has been named a Third Team All-American by the D2CCA, becoming the first All-American for the Men’s Soccer program since Ty Stauffer in 1989.

Hailing from London, England, Newson had a stellar year on the pitch, finishing the season with 35 total points on 14 goals and seven assists. During the regular season, his 14 total goals were tops in the conference and his 35 points and seven assists each were second. Nationally, Newson finished seventh in total points, was 10th in both goals/game (0.82) and total goals, and finished in the top-25 in total assists.

Calum re-wrote the Kentucky Wesleyan record book this season, as many of his season total have put him in the top ten all-time. He now ranks sixth in points, seventh in goals, and ninth in assists. In a game against Brescia earlier this year, he set the school record for points in a game (10), and tied the record for both goals (3) and assists (4). In addition to the individual accolades, Newson led the Panthers to an 8-7-3 (5-6-3 G-MAC) record, their most wins since 1991.

Only two other G-MAC players were named to All-American teams, as Lake Erie’s Teddy Baker was a First Team honoree and Tiffin’s Josh Oshakpemhe joined Newson on the Third Team.
