The Lady Aces remained undefeated with their sixth straight win on Saturday against Benton, Illinois, while Owensboro and Trinity (Whitesville) struggled offensively in their respective losses.

Owensboro vs Evansville Reitz

A rough second quarter came back to bite the Lady Devils on Saturday, as their five-game winning streak to open the season was snapped on the road by Evansville Reitz and Novah Miller’s 22 point-performance in a 57-53 loss.

Trailing 13-12 following the first quarter, Miller had 12 of Evansville Reitz’ 16 in the second. As a team they were able to slow Owensboro down and hold them to single digits, sending Evansville into halftime with a 31-20 lead.

Junior A’Lyrica Hughes tried to spark the Lady Devils offense coming out of the locker room, tallying nine points in the third quarter after just two in the first half. But Owensboro was still struggling on the defensive end, going into the fourth trailing 44-34.

The Lady Devils had its strongest offensive quarter of the night in the fourth, but it was too little too late as they ultimately fell to Evansville Reitz 57-53. Hughes led Owensboro with 16 points on the night, combining for 30 of the team’s 57 with freshman Unique Carter-Swanagan (14).

The Lady Devils sit at 5-1 following the loss, as they will now have five days off before their next game on Dec. 16, against Apollo at 5:30 p.m.

Owensboro Catholic vs Benton

The Lady Aces strong defensive effort paired with a combined 34 points from sophomore Karmin Riley (19) and senior Hailee Johnson (15) led them to a 67-42 win over Benton, Illinois, on Saturday night.

Owensboro Catholic got off to a strong start, limiting the Rangerettes to single digits to take a 12-5 lead following the first quarter. The Lady Aces then caught fire offensively, as Johnson tallied nine and points and Riley hit two of her five threes on the night to help them take a 32-17 lead into halftime.

The dynamic backcourt duo for Owensboro Catholic kept rolling coming out of the locker room, combining for 11 of the team’s 18 in the third. On the defensive end the Lady Aces were able to hold Benton to just eight in the quarter, making it to a 50-25 game.

Owensboro Catholic had plenty of momentum on its side at that point, as they went on to close the door on a 67-42 road win. The Lady Aces have now won six straight, as they now have a few days to prepare for a 6:00 p.m. road matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 13, against Trinity (Whitesville) in the 3rd Region All A Classic.

Trinity vs Ohio County

The Lady Raiders couldn’t find a rhythm offensively in the fourth quarter, ultimately leading to a 46-38 road loss to Ohio County on Saturday.

Despite having a narrow lead entering the second half of the night, Trinity (Whitesville) found themselves down 34-32 going into the fourth. The Lady Raiders luck didn’t change in the fourth either, as they were held to six points and lost 46-38 on the road.

Trinity extends their losing streak to six games to start the season with the loss, as they will look to turn things around against Owensboro Catholic at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the 3rd Region All A Classic.
