The Lady Aces suffered their first loss of the season to an undefeated Bullitt East on Tuesday, while Apollo couldn’t muster up enough offense as well in its respective loss to Breckinridge County.
Owensboro Catholic vs. Bullitt East
The Lady Aces had some rough patches offensively on Tuesday, being held to single digits to open up the first and second half of a 51-41 loss to Bullitt East.
Owensboro Catholic struggled out of the gates on the road, as they were only able to get one basket in the first and went into the second quarter trailing 15-3. The Lady Aces were able to turn things around in the following quarter though, holding the Lady Chargers to single digits and fixing their offensive woes to head into halftime all knotted up at 23-23.
Bullitt East was held to 12 coming out of the locker room, but Owensboro Catholic’s offensive struggles returned with a pair of baskets and two free throws leading to a 35-29 deficit following the third quarter. The Lady Aces were able to tally 12 points in the final quarter of play, but the Lady Chargers earned 12 of their 16 fourth quarter points from the charity stripe to help them hold on for the 51-41 win.
Apollo vs. Breckinridge County
Freshman Kennedy Lane was unable to get enough support offensively on Tuesday, as she was the only player to finish in double figures during a 57-53 E-gals loss to Breckinridge County.
Apollo trailed Breckinridge County 18-16 following the first quarter, but Lane had a strong start with 12 points to keep the E-gals within distance. She got four more in the second to close the first half with 16 points, while holding the Lady Tigers to 10 points to take a 29-28 lead at halftime.
Breckinridge County got going again offensively coming out of the locker room though, rattling off 16 points while Apollo freshman Abby Sapp had six to help the E-gals trail by a score of 44-39 going into the fourth. The E-gals were able to outscore the Lady Tigers in the fourth, but it just wasn’t enough as they ultimately fell 57-53.
Lane finished the night with 21 points, leading all scorers as Apollo suffered its fourth straight loss. The E-gals now sit at 1-7 overall, as they’ll look to turn things around against Webster County at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday
