The Lady Devils and Lady Panthers were clicking offensively in their respective wins on Wednesday, while the E-gals fell short in its matchup with Menifee County.
Owensboro vs Springfield, Tennessee
Owensboro caught fire offensively after some struggles in the first quarter on Wednesday, bouncing back with contributions from all over in a dominant 66-41 win against Springfield.
The Lady Devils got off to a slow start in the contest, leaving the first quarter trailing 13-11. In the second Owensboro exploded for 25 points, as junior A’Lyrica Hughes (12), senior Lindsey Gibson (eight) and sophomore Keely Harris (five) combined for all of it to take a 36-19 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Devils were limited to 10 points coming out of halftime, but went off for 20 in the fourth to wrap up the 66-41 win to move to 1-1 in the Lady Invitational of the South. Gibson hit six threes and led the way with 20 points, while Hughes had 14 and Harris finished with 11 in the win.
Owensboro improves to 9-3 overall with the win, as they’ll look to continue their winning ways on Thursday against Marshall County at 2:15 p.m.
Daviess County vs Calloway County
The Lady Panthers started and closed the game out strong on Wednesday, holding off Calloway County in a 58-52 win.
Senior Adylan Ayer (15) and Zoey Beehn (six) combined for 21 points in the first to kickstart Daviess County’s game, while freshman Briley Henry chipped in a three to help them take a 24-12 lead into the second. The Lady Panthers were held to single digits the following two quarters, but were able to do the same to hang onto a 37-26 lead going into the fourth.
But Ayer got going again in the fourth with nine points while Henry chipped in five from the charity stripe, helping Daviess County close the door on a 58-52 win. Ayer led all scorers with 26 points, while Beehn followed with 16 and Henry added 10.
The Lady Panthers improved to 4-7 overall with the win, looking to grab back-to-back wins when they take on Greenwood at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Apollo vs Menifee County
A rough third quarter set Apollo back on Wednesday, as they ultimately fell to Menifee County 63-51 in its first game of the FirstBank Holiday Bash.
Freshman Kennedy Lane (eight) and junior Jenna Dant (three) helped the E-gals get off to a decent start, combining for all of their points to trail 14-11 going into the second. Dant kept Apollo rolling in the second, scoring eight of their points to help them stay within reach at 33-23 going into halftime.
The E-gals did not have any luck offensively coming out of the locker room though, being held to single digits and heading into the fourth down 45-30. Apollo bounced back in the fourth with 21 points—10 of them coming from Lane—but their deficit was too much to overcome and fell to Menifee County 63-51.
Lane led all scorers with 22 points, while Dant was the only other E-gal to finish in double figures with 11 on the night. Apollo now sits at 3-8 overall following the loss, as they will look to bounce back with a doubleheader against Taylor County and South Oldham on Thursday.
