The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team picked-up a 25-16 win on Wednesday evening over Midway University. Kam’Ron Shannon-Likely and Drayden McKerrow each recorded pins on the night to help lift the Panthers to their first win of the season. The victory also marks the first career win for head coach Brandon Crawford.
The match started with a double forfeit at 125 pounds, but Bryson Rowley wrestled up a weight class and built a 12-5 lead after two periods of the 133-pound match. He later won after a disqualification to give the Panthers (1-5) a 6-0 lead. Gabe Adams followed with a 5-2 decision at 141-pounds. Adams recorded a third period take down to come away with the victory.
Cade Johnson earned a 12-4 major decision over Daylon Stafford at 157-pounds to increase the Panthers lead to 13-3. The crowd inside Jones Gymnasium erupted during the 174-pound match as Shannon-Likely pinned Trace Isalaco early in the second period. At 197-pounds McKerrow notched a third period pin over David Emfinger.
The Panthers will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday for the toughest tournament in Division II wrestling, The 43rd Midwest Classic. Competition will start inside Nicoson Hall at 10AM and continue through Sunday.
