Daviess County and Apollo wrestling showed out at the 3A Sectional 1 Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, as the Panthers finished as Sectional Champs and the Eagles were close behind in third.
There was a three-way tie for first between Apollo, McCracken County and Daviess County, with the Panthers winning the tie-breaker while McCracken County was runner-up and the Eagles were third.
Daviess County defeated Owensboro 72-12, fell to Apollo 45-39 and then defeated McCracken County 43-36 and Henderson County 54-30 to secure first place. Jackson Stoner went 4-0 for the Panthers alongside Gil Nicodemus and Kolyn Cruz, while Luke McLamb finished 2-0.
The Eagles along with their win against the Panthers defeated Owensboro 64-18 and Henderson County 45-27, while falling to McCracken County 45-28. Jake Ramsey, Dana Bishop and Tavius Walker shined for Apollo, going 4-0 on the day.
Mayte Lopez was close behind with a 2-0 and day, while Clayton Lawson, Mason Shepherd, Luke Eason, Ethan Berry, Clayton Pendly, and Patrick Glenn went 2-2. The boy and girls wrestling teams for Apollo will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 19, hosting Henderson and Ft. Campbell in a tri-meet for senior night.
