Star freshman Megan Matheis has been named to the Tucci/NFCA DII Pitcher & Player of the Year Watchlist. The list is broken down into the eight NCAA Regions (Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West) with up to 15 student-athletes represented in each region. The list is compiled and the award is voted on by the elected members of the NFCA Division II All-American Committee with one head coach representing each of the eight NCAA regions.

Matheis has gone on a tear to start her Wesleyan career. The Jasper, Indiana native currently has a .449 batting average, has tallied 44 hits, 24 runs, eight doubles, one triple, seven home runs, and 27 RBI’s. She ranks first in the G-MAC in hits, RBI’s, home runs, and total runs, while her batting average puts her in second place. She also boasts a .765 slugging percentage and a .495 on-base percentage.

Matheis ranks 38th nationally in total hits, 49th in batting average, 58th in slugging percentage, 61st in home runs, and 99th in RBI’s. She has reached base safely in 28 of the 31 games Wesleyan has played this season, and also tallied a 19-game hitting streak in the process.

Despite only playing half of the season so far, Matheis needs just 18 hits to crack the top ten for hits in a single season in KWC history. Her seven home runs already put her in a tie for seventh in the record books.

Wesleyan plays in their first home games this weekend when they take on Ashland and Northwood in G-MAC doubleheaders. First pitches are Saturday and Sunday at 12 p.m.
