The Kentucky Wesleyan Women’s Golf team closed their season at the G-MAC Championships this past week. Playing at the University Club of Kentucky, the Panthers shot rounds of 365-343-347 to finish with a team score of 1,055 (+191).
Sophomore Megan Bryan led the Panthers, shooting rounds of 85-77-92 to finish with a total score of 254 (+38). Her second round score of 77 is a career low, and it included three birdies and a 35 (-1) on the front nine. Maddie Zimmerman made the most pars on the team (26) and shot rounds of 87-90-83 to finish with a 260 (+44). Freshman Audrey Koetter improved every round, shooting rounds of 92-87-86 to compile a total score of 265 (+49). Avery Shacklette made incredible strides throughout the tournament, improving every day with scores of 101-96-87 to finish with a 284 (+68). Samantha DeSpain tied Shacklette, also shooting a 284 (+68), using rounds of 104-89-91 to complete that score.
Wesleyan set a new team best score at the conference championships, besting their previous best score of 1,147, set last year, by 92 strokes.
Medalist honors went to Findlay’s Gabby Woods, who shot a 214 (-2) over three rounds to win the event. Findlay and Tiffin finished one and two in the event, and will compete for the championship tomorrow morning.
