Hattricks from two separate players helped Daviess County to a 10-0 shutout over Owensboro, while Catholic bested Apollo 4-0. This brings OCHS to an undefeated 4-0 in district play.

DCHS 10, OHS 0

The Lady Panthers started the game off with strong intensity as they put four goals in the net within the first half. Jessie Hardwood opened the scoring by putting in a deflected cross that was punched by the goalkeeper.

DCHS dominated possession during the match with accurate passing and forward runs behind the back line. The Lady Red Devils’ defense made some key stops and saves, but it was not enough to hold back the high pressure offense of DCHS.

The Lady Panthers had Mary Evelyn Wiman and Lillian Coombs both record hattricks with one assist each to lead the offense. Other goal scorers included Kate McCain who had two goals and an assist and Molly Floyd had one goal. On the stat sheet with assists were Bailey Brown with three, and Madison Purcell with one.

DCHS would go on to score their tenth goal in the middle of the second half, where the game was then called.

Combs attributed the offensive play during this match to the team chemistry and confidence in one another.

“We are all really good friends and we all trust each other with the ball,” she said. “We all work really hard on and off the field to make sure that our touches and passes are all crisp and perfect. I think sometimes our confidence isn’t always up there, but I think we’re doing better at it.”

Lady Panthers head coach David Sandifer said the team’s movement this game on and off the ball has improved in the last couple of games.

“That movement puts pressure on defenders and we made some good passes as well,” he said. “When you’re aggressive in front of the goal, good things are gonna happen.”

OCHS 4, AHS 0

OCHS had a 4-0 win over Apollo as they remain undefeated in district play. The Lady Aces were led on the scoresheet by Allie Martson who had two goals and an assist. Ginny Young and Aubrey Randolph scored the teams’ other goals. On the stat sheet with assists were Mallary Bailey with two and Elizabeth Hayden with one.

OCHS head coach Andy Hines said tonight was the best game they’ve played thus far this season. Despite being undefeated in district play, the goal is to keep moving forward, he said.

“We had 28 shots on goal and created many quality chances,” he said. “We have been pretty inconsistent the past few games, but tonight was a step in the right direction. I think our goal is to keep improving and be a little more clinical in front of goal.”
