Owensboro cycling company Be Real Sports is hosting a unique event this Sunday with a gravel bike race. Be Real owner Larry Myles said gravel racing is intense but fun and is growing quickly in popularity.
The 2023 GETAWAY Gravel Grinder is a self-supported race that will take place along the gravel roads of Dubois and Spencer counties in southern Indiana. Myles said there simply aren’t many gravel roads to host the event in Daviess County.
The event will start and finish at Honey Creek Farms, located at 1239 East County Road 500 North, Grandview, IN 47615.
The courses are new and refined for 2023, and they are based on the classic “Peanuts” characters Snoopy and Woodstock. The courses will be on open roads, so there may be vehicle traffic in some areas.
“Road surfaces will be buttery smooth asphalt, chip seal, smooth gravel, chunky gravel, mud, and dirt,” according to Myles. “Riders are advised to use good judgment and make safe decisions during the race. There will likely be pain and suffering.”
GPX files for each course are listed below. Cue sheets will be provided if needed.
