Daviess County and Owensboro both win by a four-goal margin in district matchups. DCHS is now 4-0 in district play and OHS is now 3-1.

DCHS 4, OCHS 0

The Panthers won 4-0 with a high-pressure offense to crack the Aces’ solid defense. DCHS held most of the possession during the game, but OCHS was more than willing to put up a fight on defense to hold them back as best they could.

The Aces’ defense played with intensity and aggression in both halves, and the defensive play style was tough to crack, according to DCHS head coach Doug Sandifer. The Panthers’ midfield is what helped to push through, he said.

“Catholic makes things really difficult and they play hard while crowding the box, but I thought our guys dealt with it pretty well in both halves,” he said. “Guys like Lucas Humphrey played really well and won basically everything in midfield and started our attack. He’s been playing fantastic all year and he doesn’t get a whole lot of goals or his name in the paper much, but his effort on the field is really a key piece for us in the middle.”

Quisenberry opened the scoring in the 20th minute after burying the ball into the bottom right corner to beat the goalkeeper. Saw Mu dribbled through defenders and opened himself up for a shot into the top corner to make the score 2-0 at halftime.

The Panther went on to score two more goals in the second half. Sam Glover scored a volley off of a corner by Cameron Bell who got the assist. The final goal was scored by Keaton Goddard from an assist by Lah Htoo. Gabe Sandefur had an assist as well.

Despite being down by four in the last minutes of the game, the Aces did not take this loss lying down. Goalkeeper Ben Dawson only had four saves during the game, but they were all key saves in stopping the Panthers’ momentum. Head coach Andy Donohoe said if they replicate tonight’s efforts they should be in good shape to win more games going forward.

“I’m proud of them; there was an outstanding work rate from everyone that went out there and they did a good job,” he said. “They’ll step forward confidently hopefully with confidence from this game. If we do this the same going forward we’ll put ourselves in more chances to win games.”

OHS 5, AHS 1

The Red Devils won 5-1 in their district matchup against the Eagles. The match saw three goals scored in each half. Arlo Johnson opened the scoring from an assist by Kennedy Payne. Emmanuel Lichi scored the next two goals for the Red Devils. Sang Tang scored one goal, and Johnson scored the final goal for OHS from the penalty spot. Ra Ne Son scored the Eagles’ goal from the penalty spot as well.

The attacking play during the match had a creative flow to it and more OHS players proved themselves in creating chances, OHS head coach Ryan Haley said. Haley had five freshmen on the field at one point in the match as well, he said.

“Our biggest area of improvement was our ability to be creative in the attacking third,” he said. “Multiple guys showed that they can create. I thought we did a good job of changing the point on them and attacking the goal before they were set.”
