Apollo (0-3) hung close through halftime but struggled in the second half of a 45-19 loss at Meade County (2-1) on Friday night. The highlights for the Eagles came on a pair of touchdown passes from Max Johnson to Eli Masterson in the closing minutes.
The Green Wave struck first with the lone touchdown of the first quarter, then added a field goal midway through the second for a 10-0 lead.
Just before halftime, Apollo’s JT Edge scored on a 5-yard run. The Eagles went into the break trailing 10-7.
Meade County notched a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter and further stretched their lead to 31-7 with 9:50 left in the game.
Johnson’s first touchdown toss to Masterson was a 65-yard score, and the two connected again with 2:06 to play. However, Meade had answers each time to keep the game well out of reach.
The Eagles have another tough test next week when they travel to Bowling Green before heading into district play.
