Daviess County’s defense came up with a goal-line stand in the final minutes and an interception to end the game as they held off McCracken County for a 14-6 road win Friday.
The Panthers (3-6) have now won 3 of their last 4 games after losing the first 5.
DC got on the board first with a Gatlin Maysey 4-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. Maysey found paydirt again from 4 yards out early in the second to extend the lead to 14-0.
The lone score for the Mustangs (4-5) came with 1:14 left in the first half when Maddox O’Neal hit Cooper Falconite for a 15-yard touchdown. The PAT was blocked, leaving the score at 14-6.
With nothing doing in the third quarter, all the excitement came in the final minutes.
MC was driving downfield but a goal-line stand by the Panthers gave the ball back to DC with 3:09 to go. They couldn’t run the clock out, giving the Mustangs one last chance to score.
However, DC’s Russ Crowe pulled down an interception in the end zone to end the game.
The Panthers will finish out the regular season next week with a short trip to Apollo.
